Want to wear jeans to work every day, consume as much free coffee and soda as you want (let’s not forget free lunch Fridays), go to some awesome parties, perhaps play a few practical jokes on your peers and colleagues AND get paid for it?

About Our Client

We are a fairly-small-but-growing company located in Northborough, MA, that has experienced 40% growth year over year for the past 6 years.  We were honored in 2009 and 2010 as one of the Inc. 5000 fastest growing private U.S. companies and we are a team of talented, passionate (albeit quirky) individuals who are on a mission to provide the best resources and support to job seekers everywhere.

Do you feel like you have to beg for a stapler or pen at your office because budgets are too tight?  We believe in providing our team members with the tools they need to get the job done in the best way possible – all in an environment where they can be themselves and express their creativity freely.

How do you fit in? You tell us!

Now for the serious part…the job:

Our amazing development team (8 and counting) needs a visionary leader and mentor to help them be the best they can be.  We are a goals-based company - you will work with each individual member of the team to set goals in accordance with the company vision and help/guide/facilitate each individual team member’s success and define their career paths, as well as reinforce their ability to act as an integrated, communicative group.

You must have a complete understanding of the development cycle from inception to launch (SDLC).  We really like to challenge ourselves and it’s important that you are able to break a project down into smaller, workable components with the team while still communicating the overall vision for the project (our projects tend to be BIG).

Once the project has been broken down, you will work with the project manager to establish a schedule, assign resources and hold them accountable to meeting all deliverables on time and to spec. You will also act as a resource to translate technical issues and apply the right amount of pressure when needed – all with a finger on the pulse of the project so you know what is going on at all times. Also important is an understanding of QA, so you can ensure that quality and consistency are present throughout the process.  In other words – own the responsibility for the department and make things happen!

We expect you to be hands-on with your team – meaning that you will have your own office, but we don’t expect you to be in it, much. You should know each person’s strengths, how to set proper expectations, be available to help when someone is going through a rough patch, and be aware of when we need to hire additional resources.

From a technical perspective, you need to have the following (after all – this is a Development Manager position):

  • A solid understanding of development methodologies, including agile processes (Scrum)
  • Familiarity and past experience with application security (we are an e-Commerce business)
  • Ability to stay current with new technology and know when and where to apply it
  • Best Practice Procedures: Testing and deployment for applications, as well as code documentation and (see above) security
  • 10+ years of development experience, preferably with a focus on web-based technologies
  • 6+ years managing technical staff
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ColdFusion, Flex, SQL Server, CSS, HTML, JavaScript, Source Code Control Systems, XML, Content Management Systems, ColdFusion and Flex structured frameworks, Object Oriented Analysis, Design and Programming
  • Complete understanding of the hardware and software infrastructure necessary to support high traffic, scalable web applications

What else?

The usual management must-haves:

·       Strong verbal, written and visual communication skills, to a variety of audiences.

·       Experience managing a department budget

·       Experience delivering regular feedback and coaching

Finally, you will be part of a Management Team of 7 who strives to do our absolute best for our employees and our customers. Each manager is responsible for the vision and performance of their individual department. We are a strategy-oriented group that loves to have a good time and work hard, every day.

This position reports directly to the President & CEO.
